RESPONSIBILITIES

- Review of valuation methodologies & assumptions for in-force Traditonal, UL, Par and Individal A&S product lines;
- Establishment of valuation methodologies and assumptions for new products;
Analysis of financial results including Source of Earnings analysis;
- Dynamic Capital Adequacy testing, Embedded Value analysis;
- Dividend analysis for Participating business.
- Pricing/Product Development actuaries would be involved in activities such as
Work closely with the product and marketing area to assess the viability of product changes and new product initiatives;
- Influence product design and recommend pricing structures that meet the collective goals of Individual Insurance
- Explain profitability issues clearly and concisely to a non-technical audience
- Interact with Product Risk Management as needed on initiaitves and product launches
- Obtain formal approval for all product initiatives through the gated process and responsibility that all initiatives are priced in accordance with Corporate Pricing Standards;
- Understand the role of reinsurance in new business pricing. Interact with reinsurers on new treaty tenders or issues involving existing treaties;
- Understand the impact of Canadian tax policy (both Corporate and Policyholder) on pricing metrics and product design;
- Assess and/or review special quote requests. Provide consluting expertise to Special Case Markets as needed.







QUALIFICATIONS:

- Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, or equivalent
- Substantial actuarial work experience in positions of increasing responsibility
- Relevant experience in individual pricing with familiarity of Canadian valuation and capital requirements (experience specific to Living benefits product pricing and design an asset)
- Familiarity with traditional reinsurance structures and arrangements and experience in reinsurance management is an asset
- Strong technical skills, especially towards financial issues, coupled with the ability to verbally communicate results effectively;
- Strong business acumen, mentoring, negotiation and influencing skills
- Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills, innovative in overcoming obstacles, and able to understand the full implication of their work;
- Strong people influencing and leadership qualities, able to inspire and motivate others to achieve results
- Passionate about the value creation process and integrating strategy and actuarial science;
- High level of integrity and a commitment to sound business ethics.
