Problem in Exam P Broverman 2007

Hey guys,
Instead of Z=X+2Y, if we take Z=X+Y+Y, and then use the fact that the MGF of the sum of independent RV's is their product (formula from page 239), we get the wrong answer...does anyone know why? Is the answer given in the solutions (E) actually correct?

Exam M Book Question

I'm trying to find a cheap copy of Actuarial Mathematics 2nd Ed. (Bowers, Gerber...), one of the recommended texts for Exam M. I've found some cheap copies of the first edition but not the second edition. Does anybody know how much difference there is between the editions? Will the 1st edition suffice for studying?
